I am not an Athenian, nor a Greek, but a citizen of the world.
The civilized are those who get more out of life than the uncivilized, and for this we are not likely to be forgiven.
It is not the position, but the disposition.
Democracy: In which you say what you like and do what you're told.
It takes a clever man to turn cynic and a wise man to be clever enough not to.
To love is to place our happiness in the happiness of another.
With the possible exception of the equator, everything begins somewhere.
Man proposes, but God disposes.
The intellectual tradition is one of servility to power, and if I didn't betray it I'd be ashamed of myself.
Enthusiasm is very good lubrication for the mind.
Nothing is more powerful than custom or habit.
Fair flowers are not left standing along the wayside long.
You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.
